Collins Canadian Student Atlas: Learn with Maps Poetic Review

Collins Canadian Student Atlas: Learn with Maps  Open Review Poem

The following bad poetry was composed while teaching Grade 7 in Attawapiskat FN during summer 2021 while preparing lessons for 2021-2022.

As an atlas,

I guess... hmmm... it’s all right,--

But here are some suggestions that you might,

Use when you do your next rewrite.

To make this the best atlas for Canadian schools,

We really need some additional tools.

May I suggest you might begin,

By reading all Canadian school curriculum.

I really wish I could use your atlas for teaching,

All the subjects that I’m teaching.

In Grade 7 Ontario History,

It’s a mystery to me,

Where the maps are located in your book that we need.

I searched and searched and searched and searched,

As I did not wish your reputation to be besmirched,

But unless I have an offprint,

This atlas should be out of print.

In addition, when it comes to math,

I had hoped to find at least two Canadian cities in the World Climate graphs,

It makes me sad, it makes me blue,

Your atlas does not have the information my students need to use,

And thus this is why I’m writing you.

I truly want you to achieve your best,

At being the best atlas,

But as far as use in Ontario schools,

This atlas is missing many, many tools.
